Its A Greek Thing.

If horses were wishes,
I wouldn't wish for fancy dishes,
Of tropical fruit and exotic fishes,
Neither silver or gold,
Nor never to be frail and old.

If horses were wishes,
I'd wish to dine with the twelve Olympians,
With flowing Ambrosia and regal wines from Dionysus to quench my thirst,
After divine meals from Hestia,
And escapades of Zeus defeating Kronos and the Titans zealously told around the table.

If horses were wishes,
I'd wish to listen to tales from the mighty Heracles,
Of how he accomplished the 12 labours,
His eventful capture of the terrifying Ceberaus,
Of how he slay the sly Nemean lion and the Lernaean Hydra,
Or how he cunningly got the golden apples of the Hesperides,
Oh, how I'd love to hear to hear the tales told and re-told.

If horses were wishes,
I'd wish to fight by the brave Archilles and Ajax, with Nestor at our side,
My shield, armour and sword glinting in the afternoon sun,
Singing praise to Achilles as he slay Hector, and Philoctetes as he shot Paris dead,
We would smite the Trojans with the ease and deftness of Athena and Apollo.
Defeating the Trojans after the wooden horse ruse, such a glorious feat!

If horses were wishes,
I'd wish to journey back to Ithaca with courageous Odysseus,
Striving to be back in the arms of fair and wise Penelope,
Denying the allure of the beautiful nymph Calypso and the witch Circe,
And sly as wolves in sheepskin, escape the Cyclops Polyphemus,
Our legendary visit to the nether-world, Hades fort, and leaving unscathed would astound!
What epic tales we would have told!

If horses were wishes,
I'd wish to accompany Jason of the Argonauts on his quest for the golden fleece,
Or help Perseus defeat Medusa the Gorgon,
And watch Theseus accomplish his six deeds,
Or maybe him out-witting the Minotaur in Daedalus' labyrinth,

If wishes were horses....
